How to use the Sawyer water filter?

This is an easy-to-use water filter system. I took water from a lake, stream and river into the bottle and screwed on the Sawyer filter. I had three options for using the water: I could squeeze the bottle and filter the water into my bottle, I could connect the filter outlet to most bottles with a thread and pump/filter the water into it, or I could just drink it straight from the bottle. I found all three options to be easy to use and convenient.

Pro tip: The filter can be placed in an ordinary PET bottle.

Water filtration components Included

  • 2x Collapsible bottle 1.0 liter
  • 1x Sawyer PointONE™ filter with thread for screwing on the bottle
  • 1x Syringe for cleaning the filter
  • Reusable BPA-free collapsible pouch
  • 1x tube for gravity filtration
  • 2x reduction for filling the hydro bag
  • Cleaning plunger
  • Inline Hydration Pack Adapters

How do I prevent my filter from freezing?

We suggest that you store the filter in your pocket or close to your body so that body heat can prevent freezing.

Does the Sawyer filter remove taste, chemicals and heavy metals from water?

The Sawyer filter cleans water by removing germs, debris, and green matter. Chemicals such as; iron, sulfur, other chemicals, or simple compounds are not removed. For better-tasting water, flavor enhancers such as Gatorade or Crystal Light can be used to conceal taste (the filter needs to be cleaned immediately after using them).

Durability and Maintenance

The Squeeze is a backcountry water filtration system that is designed to be reliable and durable. It has a few flaws, but when managed properly, it can provide the reliability needed for any exceptional water filtration system. One filter is projected to filter 3,780,000 gallons of water, which is more than enough for a long trip into the backcountry.

The system comes with a durable composite filter, an extra O-ring. The flow rate of the filter is compromised after a few uses if you are traveling in areas with silty or heavily contaminated water. The syringe needs to be carried so that you can backflush the system each time you use it.

Weight and Packability:

The LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottle is a great option for backpacking and hiking adventures. It doesn’t weigh much, and all the components fit into all the nooks and crannies of your backpack. The only drawback is that you have to carry a separate water bottle to fill the filter with.

The Squeeze includes a mesh pouch, filter, additional O-ring, back flushing syringe, straw, straw adapter, and a few more bags. All these components fit inside the mesh bag, roughly the size of a large sandwich. The whole thing weighs roughly 5.7 ounces.

Ease of Setup and Use

The Lifestraw is a water filter that can be used in two ways: either by sucking up water from a source and drinking it through the straw, or by filling up a bag with water and squeezing it through the filter into a drinking vessel. The set-up is relatively easy and only takes about 30 seconds. This system is simple and easy to use overall.

Does the Sawyer Squeeze work?

Yes, the Sawyer Squeeze works as advertised. The small size and light weight make it easy to carry and use. The squeeze valve is easy to use and allows for easy flow of water. The Sawyer Squeeze is a great choice for hikers and campers who want to stay hydrated on the go.

Who is it for?

The Sawyer Squeeze is a water filtration system that is marketed to beginner backpackers, weekend warriors, and thru-hikers. The system is designed to be lightweight and easy to use, and it is effective at removing bacteria and protozoa from water sources.

Our Verdict:

The Sawyer Squeeze is a lightweight, versatile, affordable personal water filtration system. It is perfect for one or two people. The 3-in-1 design allows you to drink water directly from the source. To use it, connect it to your hydration bladder, or squeeze water into another bottle. While the bags it comes with are flawed, the filter is compatible with a traditional water bottle top, making it easy to substitute another bottle.
