Salomon Quest 4 GTX Hiking Boot Review: The Right Fit

Salomon Quest :The best women’s hiking boot for your next adventure! The top-end hiking boot is Loaded and ready for anything.

The Quest boots are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a sturdy, well-made boot that can handle a variety of outdoor activities. I’ve owned a few pairs of Salomon Quest boots over the years and was hesitant about the new version released this year because of some negative reviews I read online. But after giving them a try, I’m convinced they’re just as good, if not better, than the previous versions. The grip seems more aggressive and should last longer than the old version, which wore quickly. I’ll definitely purchase them again.

The Quest boot is a perennial favorite for a reason- it’s versatile, comfortable, and affordable. This boot can be used for anything from hiking to fishing to hunting. The boot is also reasonably priced, making it an attractive option for those on a budget.

Salomon Quest 4 GTX

Price:  $172.50

Weight: 1 lb. 44 oz. (men’s size 9) per shoe

Waterproofness: Yes (Gore-Tex)

What we like: Secure fit, protective, and supportive yet comfortable for covering long distances over technical ground. SensiFit cradles the foot from the midsole to the lacing system, providing a secure, snug, and virtually customized fit around the foot.

What we don’t: Overkill for smoother trails and most-day hiking.

Weight and comfort:

When I first put on the Quest, I had to break in the boot a bit. It was snug initially, but after a few hours of wear, it loosened up enough so my foot could move and breathe comfortably. The boot has a good cushion but is not too soft or squishy. It’s just right. Weighing in at 2 pounds 11.2 ounces. This is a modest drop in weight, but it puts the Quest closer to its competitors in the midweight hiking boot category.

The Quest performed well on both technical trails and flat ground. As with other Salomon boots, the foot-locking system works great and keeps the boot secure on my feet no matter what terrain I am covering. The only downside was that I had to break in the boot more than usual because my wide foot needed more room to move. But once it was broken in, I had no issues with the width of the boot.

Who Should Buy It?

The Salomon Quest 4 Gore-Tex is an excellent hiking, hunting and fishing boot that offers great comfort and stability. It is perfect for hikers who frequently hike in wet weather or carry large backpacks. The boot is well-made and offers great support and protection from the elements. A durable and comfortable boot will keep their feet warm and dry in any weather. We highly recommend the Salomon.

Waterproofness: Stay dry on your next adventure

The Quest 4 Gore-Tex is the highest-rated hiking boot in our test group. Using a Gore-Tex waterproof/breathable membrane, an industry-standard in wet weather footwear, these boots do a great job repelling water. When tested for small creeks, they are more confident in the water than any others.

The feet are comfortable when wet, with a 6-inch flood height, measured from the bottom of the sole to the top of the waterproof lining.

Traction: Get a grip on your hike!

The boots are equipped with the following features that make them Grip:

The Quest 4 GTX is a reliable backpacking rubber that grips well on slippery surfaces and rugged terrain. It was trusty on lakes and ponds and gripped reasonably well in mud and moss but showed wear and tear over time.

All Terrain Contagrip: If you’re looking for a shoe that can handle any terrain, All Terrain Contagrip is the way to go. It’s built for durability and confidence on wet, dry, hard or loose surfaces.

4D Advanced Chassis: The stable chassis construction offers midsole stability for enhanced foot control and active comfort.

Active Support: The mobile wing helps keep the foot in place and accompanies the hiker’s movement by adapting to the foot’s shape.

Stability and Support: Find your perfect fit

The Salomon Quest is a sturdy and comfortable boot for backpacking, offers a higher ankle height, and features wings at each foot side that connect directly to the lacing system.

The Quests boot laces up your heel and ankle fit so you can have direct feedback from the boot to your muscles and the spatial receptors in your joints.

This is the boot for you if you’re looking for a hunting, hiking, or multi-day camping boot that will protect your feet without being too stiff or rigid. It’s perfect for trekking, mountaineering, and deer hunting, and it won’t overload your knees and hips like some mountaineering-style boots on the market.

Ground protection for your feet:

I was really impressed with the Quest boots. They provide great protection without sacrificing any “ground feel.” This is a rare combination in a boot that’s tough enough for mountain hiking. They’re also flexible enough that I could comfortably run in them, which is a big plus. I tested their protection against sharp rocks and roots, and they held up great. No discomfort at all. Overall, these are an excellent choice for anyone looking for a tough, versatile boot.

Fit: The right fit for your feet.

The Quest 4D GTX is a great boot for those with a narrow to average width foot. It is lightweight and can be used for a variety of purposes. However, it is unsuitable for the most technical or serious mountain terrain. It is also a great choice for early-season hikes or cross-training.

The molded OrthoLite sockliner is a great feature of this shoe. It provides superior cushioning and breathability and is very durable. It’s also great for people with high arches or flat feet, providing support and comfort. Overall, this is a great shoe for anyone looking for a comfortable, breathable, durable option.

Build Quality and Durability: A shoe for the active person, built to last through any activity.

The Salomon Quest hiking boot is well-made, durable, and stylish. The boot’s design is a mixture of leather and tough synthetic, which holds up well to wear and tear. The laces and accompanying hardware are all intact, and the outsole wears evenly and very lightly.

The ADV-C 4D Chassis supports your foot, especially around the heel. This helps reduce muscle fatigue, especially when carrying a heavy backpack. The shoe is also very comfortable and looks great. Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase.

Our Verdict:

The hold up well and immediately feel comfortable. Awesome support in a rugged but lightweight, reasonably-priced shoe. Traction is unbelievable on all kinds of terrains. The La Sportiva Quest boot is an excellent choice for anyone looking for a boot that provides great traction, protection and ground feel. I tested the boots in some wet conditions on the West Coast and found that they provided superior traction on rock, roots and logs compared to other alpine-oriented boots I’ve used. The Quest is a great option if you’re looking for a boot that can handle any terrain.
